I was wondering if you might be willing to make a practice exam for the next test, or perhaps just tell us some sample problems from the book which might be helpful (and maybe solutions). In any case, I'm also interested in any recommendations you might have for supplementary reading.

Dear Hard Working Student,
Thanks for your desire to improve your next exam score. I am giving a quiz everyday now so that the class can get a better idea of the important concepts in each chapter.
There were no out of the blue exam questions on the exams. The last exam was developed from homework problems, quiz problems, class room material and I told everyone that there would be a circuit problem. There will be no out of the blue questions on the next exam., either.
The best way to study is to keep up with the material in the chapter that I am lecturing on, do the homework and study the examples in the book. By being prepared for the lecture and the quiz, a person will be adjusting to the finer points that I make in class, not just getting the broad details and then be in a scramble to catch up later(which never happens) with just how to apply the ideas we have been studying.
I don't believe those in the class need to study extra material to learn this subject. As I said, there are no quiz or exam questions that are outside the material we are covering. If a student should have extra time, they should,
(1) Work the examples in the book.
(2) They should already be rewriting the quiz questions that they don't get 100% correct.
(3) They should already be rewriting the exam questions that they don't get 100% correct.
(4) They should read the chapter before lecture and reread the chapter again after the lecture and then again before the exam.
(5) They should ask questions in class and recitation about things they are unsure of.
I have offered several times for the class to rewrite the exams. No one has presented me yet with a rewritten exam. My guess is that people are not learning from their mistakes. In the past I have given the exact same problem on the final as on one of the exams only to find that a class does no better the second time I ask the question.
Also. remember that there is one more exam and a final that counts for two exams yet do be turned in, along with a lot more quizzes.
Finally, we will complete all the following chapters for this course;
27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41
If you look on the homework chart you will see that chapters 37, 40 and 41 will only have one homework assignment and only one recitation period for you to work through the material in these chapter. You need to keep up and read these chapters ahead of time. If you get behind now there is no time to get caught up as the semester is almost over.

P.S. A couple of students are reading books during class. My guess is that this will not be helpful during their exams. However, if a student should feel that my lecture is not useful they are always welcome to ask that I cover something else or leave right after the quiz.

Exam II Results
Here is the grade distribution for exam II.

The exam will cover Chapters: 31, 32, 33, 34 .
The Exam will be written for 1 hour but you will be given 2 hours to work the exam.

We would like to change the recitation to another time on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please consider what times might work for you. We will discuss in class on Monday August 20th what options we have.
